In the early 70's there was no ambulance service immediately availabe for the sick and injured of Aransas County.  If someone needed to get to the hospital, they had to go by private car or they could call the Funeral Home in the next town to come and get them.

Then a group of community minded citizen's within the Rockport Chamber of Commerce formed a work group with the goal of providing medical care to the citizen's of Aransas County.

This group of citizen's along with many others became known as the Aransas County Hospital Volunteers, Inc.  Their original goal was to have a hospital in Aransas County.  We have still not achieved that goal.

When it was realized that a hospital was not feasible, it was decided that we would provide ambulance service to Aransas County.  Ambulance operations began in January of 1977, and the name of the Organization was officially changed on August 26, 1977 to Aransas County Medical Services, Inc.

Aransas County Medical Services, Inc., also known as Aransas County EMS started as a "Private" and "Non-Profit" Corporation.  It remains that way to this day.

Aransas County Medical Services, Inc. operates under a "Board of Directors".  Board Members are selected from local business leaders, local governmental representatives, and concerned individuals in an effort to cover a comprehensive representation of expertise.
